Meeting in regular session, the Thomson Lions Club approved a motion to sponsor a local Fall Music Festival in October, with Vice President Aaron Thomson as Chairman.  Tentative plans will be released later for this festival to celebrate the harvest in the area.  It is hoped that local music groups and other organizations will work with the Lions in coordinating this fun event. Contact Aaron at 608-224-9887 for more information.  In other business, the group voted to contribute to local community events this year, in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce.

Local Librarian DeeAnn Brearton gave a presentation regarding the need for a “Story Walk-A-Thon” apparatus, to be permanently erected at the library.  She asked for monetary assistance.  The Lions will consider the proposal and whether to make a donation.  Total cost for this project is between $4000 and $5000.  It is hoped the community will also get involved in raising funds, for this year-round addition to the community.  For more information contact DeeAnn at 608-259-2480.

The next meeting will be the first Community Supper, at 5:30 p.m., on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at Thomson Methodist Church, with entertainment provided. It is open to the public; please bring your own table service and a dish to pass.

The next regular Lions Club meeting will be Thursday, September 8, at Subs-to-Go, 802 One Mile Road, Thomson, IL, at 11:30 a.m. It also is open to all those interested in serving the community. Interested community-minded citizens are urged to join the Lions Club service group, which promotes Diabetes awareness, the Rockford Sight and Hearing Center, and Candy Day for the Blind.

The Lions Club is also soliciting ideas for needy community projects, that the local Club could support. Call Luanne at 815-259-3168 for more information on joining the Lions or with ideas about community projects.
