On Wednesday, April 30, 2025, Congressman Eric Sorensen helped reintroduce the Equality Act.  It [is designed to] codify protections for members of the LBTQ+ against discrimination–in employment, housing, credit, education, public spaces and services, Federally-funded programs, and jury service.

“It has been the honor of a lifetime to be the first openly LGBTQ+ member of Congress elected from Illinois, and to have the opportunity to use my voice to fight against violence and discrimination,” said the Congressman.  “Attacks against LGBTQ+ people have been on the rise, and we need to come together to do more than just speak out.  I am proud to join my colleagues in supporting the Equality Act, which would codify safeguards to protect the LGBTQ+ community from discrimination in all aspects of life.”

Congressman Sorensen has helped support members of the LGBTQ+ community in the midst of a concerning rise in attacks and discrimination against people expressing their identity.  Last Congress, he helped introduce the Pride in Mental Health Act to improve mental health supports for at-risk LGBTQ+ youth.
