John F. Booker, currently serving as Sheriff of Whiteside County, proudly announces his candidacy for re-election, to continue his service to the community for a third term. With 34 years of Law Enforcement experience and a deep commitment to the people of Whiteside County, Booker is focused on maintaining the County’s safety and continuing to improve the Sheriff’s Office, to better serve its residents.
“I am honored to have served as your Sheriff for the past two terms, and I’m excited to announce that I am running for re-election to build on the progress we’ve made together,” said Booker. “Having lived in Whiteside County for 34 years, I understand the values and needs of our community….[M]y experience has prepared me to continue leading the Sheriff’s Office with integrity, professionalism, and dedication. Politics has no place behind the wheel of a patrol car….I will continue to ensure that our Law Enforcement remains focused on what truly matters–keeping our community safe.”

As Sheriff, Booker has faced challenges unlike those of previous administrations. From managing the unprecedented public health crisis of COVID-19 to navigating the complexities of the Illinois Safety Act, Booker demonstrated resilient leadership in the face of adversity. No other Sheriff has faced the unique set of circumstances that this Office encountered during my tenure,” Booker said. “COVID-19 changed everything–from how we interact with the community, to how we safeguard our Deputies. I’m proud of the way we adapted, to ensure the continued safety of Whiteside County.
Additionally, the implementation of the Illinois Safety Act presented new challenges for Law Enforcement agencies across the State, including Whiteside County. Booker has worked tirelessly to understand the new law’s provisions and ensure that the Sheriff’s Office is both compliant and effective in its execution. “While new laws often bring uncertainty, my focus has always been on ensuring the safety of our community, and I’ve led our Department through these changes to uphold our core mission,” Booker added.
Throughout his time in office, Booker has prioritized public safety, modernizing Law Enforcement practices, and fostering strong relationships between the Sheriff’s Office and the community. Under his leadership, the Department implemented enhanced training programs for Deputies; bolstered community policing initiatives; incorporated the latest technologies to support Law Enforcement efforts.
One of Booker’s proudest accomplishments has been strengthening the relationships between the Sheriff’s Office and Whiteside County residents. By prioritizing open communication and collaboration with local communities, he has fostered an environment where residents feel supported and heard. Through programs such as community outreach and partnerships with schools, Booker worked to build trust and provide valuable resources to help keep crime rates down and residents safe.
“I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, but there is more work to be done,” Booker said. “From addressing the opioid epidemic, to combating rising property crimes, I am committed to continuing our efforts to keep Whiteside County safe and secure for everyone. I look forward to building upon our progress and finding new solutions to the evolving challenges we face.”
Booker is deeply invested in the well-being of his neighbors. His leadership is grounded in the belief that safety is a shared responsibility, and that together, the community and Law Enforcement can overcome any obstacle.
