Morrison Fire Department held its annual, autumn, Drive-Through Pork Chop Lunch on Saturday, November 20, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. In addition to pork chop sandwiches, there were grilled brats and hot dogs, chips, cookies, and a choice of beverage.
The Sandwich Sale Committee is shown, left-to-right: Chair Emmit Shepard; Chief Joe Bielema; Jeff Eissens. Jon Bielema was unavailable for the photo.
Chief Bielema stated the Department had purchased helmets and boots, which he displayed. All donations will be used to benefit the MFD’s ongoing needs for equipment, training, etc. Bielema said, “Thank you to everyone who came to support our pork chop drive-through today. It felt great to have our community back in the station! Thank you.”
The volunteer Department strives to maintain 30 members. Eissens said, “There is a waiting list of half a dozen to get on the Department.” Call 815-772-2218 to obtain an application, or search Morrison Fire Department on Facebook.
Entering the Fire Station from 206 W. Main Street, Morrison, IL, was convenient for customers–with chilly temperatures outside. Inside many crew members helped at stations: order and pay; Christmas toy drive drop off; meal prep and wrapping; grilling 600 chops, plus brats and hotdogs. Drivers departed onto U. S. Route 30. Stan Emmert, left, and Brian Tichler expertly prepared the meat, without burning the edges of the butterflied pork chops.
On Saturday, December 4, from 9:00 a.m. to noon, drive through the Fire Station again, to donate new toys or cash for the Firemen’s annual Toy Drive. This “Caring for Our Community,” initiated by Chief Dave Benters, provides presents–delivered by Santa on a fire engine–to Morrison children in need of Christmas gifts this year. Newborns-through-Junior High students are recipients. Click here for details.
