For those that made the 90-minute drive to Durand, IL, the atmosphere was perfect for September 12, 2025, Friday Night Football in the Northwest Upstate Illini Conference. The winless (0-2) Mustangs were to challenge the undefeated (2-0) Rivermen of Durand-Pecatonica High School.

The evening started with the host Rivermen charging through a smoke-filled tunnel to the excitement of the large local crowd.
The opening quarter was owned by the Rivermen as their defense held the Mustangs to two first downs in three possessions. The Rivermen’s “run-up-the middle” offense scored twice, to take 14-0 lead into quarter number two.
The second quarter showed no relief. Du-Pec scored on all four of their possessions, while holding the Mustangs’ offense to one first down in the quarter, and took a commanding 41-0 lead into halftime.

The Mustangs came out in the second half with a “win the half” mentality and vocalized the challenge often on the sideline. The deficit required that the remainder of the game be played with a continuous running clock. It only stopped for the end-of-the-quarter, time-outs, and injuries. Even with the clock adjustment, the Rivermen scored on both of their third quarter possessions, to take a 55-0 advantage into the final 12 minutes.

The final quarter started with a completed pass from Carson White to Jacob Banks for a 27-yard touchdown. Joshua McDearmon added the successful extra point kick, and the Mustangs were on the board (55-7.) The Mustangs made a last-minute drive that ended on the six-yard line, as the clock expired and the long trek home began.
The Mustangs will return home to face Forreston, IL, on Friday, September 19, 7:00 p.m. The pre-game festivities will be filled with recognition for the Morrison High School Hall of Fame members and new inductees.
