Millers Host “The Life Cycle of Clothing”

Posted by

Come join us as we explore what we wear and why it is important to our culture. This program, which is financially sponsored by Illinois Humanities, is scheduled for Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. The location is the Windmill Cultural Center at 111 Tenth Avenue, in downtown Fulton, IL, across from de Immigrant windmill.

Our monthly presentations are free and open to the public. The facility is accessible to persons with disabilities. Light refreshments will be served following the presentation.

Erika Holst, Curator of History at the Illinois State Museum, is passionate about sharing stories of people and history, through material culture. She has worked in the public history field for 15 years, curating more than a dozen specific exhibitions.

Her presentation will highlight examples of garments and artifacts from clothing during the 19th century; how it was created, mended, re-made, washed, and ultimately recycled.

Modern attitudes toward “fast fashion” will be explored and compared.
