Firefighter Calendars are for Sale–Do Not Tarry

The City of Morrison’s entertainment committee–“The Deptartment of Fun”–has created a timely fundraiser to benefit the local Fire Department.  On June 6, 2026, the Morrison, IL, volunteer organization will celebrate its sesquicentennial anniversary, on W. Main Street and at the Fire Station.  There will be food trucks, a live band on Base Street, and perhaps a bounce house.

Turning 150 years old is worthy of praise and celebration!  The Fire Department’s well-trained and dedicated 28 men and one woman serve at a moment’s notice, rushing to protect citizens, animals, and property.  It is right and proper to contribute to the Fire Department’s upcoming celebration.

To help pay for that event, The Dept. of Fun and MFD decided to create wall calendars.  Amanda Cook [The Dept. of Fun member] originated the idea; a Firefighter Committee agreed to the fundraiser.

Cook designed the layout and took some photographs.  This calendar will cause chuckles.  Two fire hats on back of a vehicle is her photo.  She “inserted” a blazing fire wall behind four, calm, shirtless men.  “Nikki West took most of the photos.”

West added, “In the fall, we began talking about the project.  We chose a Sunday to have several firefighters meet at the station and Rockwood State Park.  I just did the photography.  I am happy the project turned out as well as we hoped it would.”  She does professional camera work and is married to Fireman Tim West.

Fireman Jacob Vegter used a drone to capture a row of nine pieces of equipment.

As of Thursday, December 18, 2025, some calendars were still available at Hair Headquarters, 200 N. Madison Street.  The price is $20.  Pay with cash or a check.

Featured are several members of the Fire Department dressed in various types of apparel.  “It’s a little spicy,” descried one Fireman.  He stated photos are not racy or sexual in nature.  However, “there are a lot of chests and bellies,” he added.

Anniversary days indicate when staff joined the Department and their years of service.
