In anticipation of a new season of crop production, on Thursday, May 15, 2025, the Editor photographed these well-groomed acres. They lay between Norrish and Hazel Roads. Not a speck of green indicated what would soon emerge.
It was clear, however, that unseen seeds were poised to creep through the darkness toward the surface. Do they sense the correct direction by “feeling” the sun’s warmth? Alternately, do roots always grow deeper underground, perhaps due to cooler temperatures and/or deposits of moisture or nurtients?
How fortunate we are, that each seed contains a powerful genetic code to make that happen!

Five days later, the image had changed into a veil of green. Small sprouts were blessed by rain on Monday and Tuesday, May 19 and 20, respectively. Here come the corn!
