Chris was born on May 13, 1963, in Holland, MI, and graduated from Canton High School in Canton, SD, in 1981. Through the church where her father pastored, she met the love of her life, Luke Schouten. They were married on July 24, 1982, at Inspiration Hills in Inwood, IA, and shared 43 wonderful years together. Their love grew stronger through the years, as they walked hand-in-hand with Christ and experienced God’s faithfulness.
Chris loved her family deeply. She cherished her children and her grandchildren held an especially special place in her heart. She delighted in every opportunity to play games or simply spend time together; she loved creating memories and sharing laughter with those she loved most.
She found great joy in God’s creation, especially the beaches of Southwest Florida, collecting seashells, breathtaking sunsets, and the beauty of the outdoors. She enjoyed reading, coloring, collecting tiny things, and finding delight in the simple things of life.
Chris faithfully served alongside her husband in ministry for 38 years. She worked as a Teacher’s Aide at Laconia High School in Wisconsin and Sibley-Ocheyedan High School in Iowa. She also treasured the many deep and lasting friendships God blessed her with throughout her life. Her kindness, compassion, encouragement, and genuine love for others made her a cherished friend to many.
Above all, Chris loved Jesus. She was a devoted woman of prayer who spent countless hours reading Scripture and seeking the Lord. Her faith was evident in the way she loved others unconditionally and trusted God through every season of life.
Chris is survived by her husband, Luke; children, Danielle Schouten, Hannah (Juan) Orellana and Samuel Schouten; four grandchildren, Eliana, Silas, Amari, and Josiah Orellana; sisters, Laura (Terry) Dozark and Nancy (Don) Versteeg; brothers, Ron (Deb) Schultz and Paul (Edie) Schultz
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Marvin and Marilyn Schultz.
While we mourn her passing, we rejoice in the promise of the Gospel. Christine’s faith has become sight. The Savior she loved has welcomed her home, and she now rejoices in the presence of her Heavenly Father for all eternity. Her life leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and joy that will continue to impact all who knew her.
