Jefferson Read Declaration at Dixon Band Concert

Before the concert began, Dr. Tom Wadstrom portrayed Thomas Jefferson, as he read a “Declaration of Independence.”  It was first read to Colonists of July 4, 1776.  Wadstrom dramatically emphasized all King George’s agregious behaviors, punitive taxes, and deprivations against his citizens–at the same time denying them voter representation or redress.

At 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 3, 2026, Dixon Municipal Band began a stirring series of stand-up-and-sing music, during its Annual Patriotic Concert, inside The Dixon[, IL,] Historic Theatre.  The enthusiastic audience ignored the rain and lightning outside and cheered throughout the night.  Even when they were plunged into darkness, 65 band members–including four from Morrison, IL,–and the audience simply took out their phones and waited patiently.  No one was interested in leaving this night!  Director Jon James soon explained that a fuse had blown.
