Youthful U Ribbon Cutting July 30

Jill-KaywynJill Beswick is shown tending her mother’s hair prior to an Open House, on Wednesday, January 21, 2015, showcasing her public salon, “Youthful U.”

The salon name was previously used by family friend Kathy Kimmer, of Clinton, IA, during the 1980’s and 1990’s.  She died 15 years ago.  Beswick asked Kimmer’s husband if she could carry forward the salon name in Kathy’s honor.  He agreed and gave some of his late wife’s materials to Jill.

Youthful U is a multi-dimensional salon, housed inside Windsor Manor Assisted Living Community, 403 Scenic Street, Morrison, IL.

Beswick is the resident Cosmetologist, with nine resident clients, the WM maintenance man, and five staff members.  In addition, she serves the general public–children, adults, males, and females–from a separate entrance at the west parking area.

Six months after opening mother, Kaywyn, many family members–celebrated Jill’s membership in the Morrison Chamber of Commerce, during a 4:30 p.m. ribbon cutting, on Thursday, July 30.

Left-to-right, well-wishers included front, youngsters Kelsey and Owen Ewoldsen; row two, parents Kaywyn and Paul Beswick, owner Jill Beswick, Jessica Fortune and son Ryder, Morrison Community Hospital’s Pam Pfister and Mick Welding; row three, Marilyn Berge, Alta Jones, Christian Tarbill, uncle and aunt Rocky and Becky Kampling; back, Larry Jones and uncle Dale Beswick.

  • Monday and Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Friday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Next month is the one-year anniversary of Beswick’s completion of the 16-month cosmetology program at Capri College in Davenport, IA.  Her skill set includes a plethora of pleasant pampering.  She looks forward to sharing these with new clients:

  • haircuts, fringe/beard trims
  • shampoos
  • styles and updo’s
  • coloring, highlights/lowlights, individual foils, men’s camo color
  • perms
  • adding hair extensions
  • makeup application
  • paraffin dips
  • manicures/pedicures
  • Shellac nails
  • waxing hair removal (eyebrows, nostrils, face, body, bikini, Brazilian)
  • facials with massaging by fingertips
  • reconditioning hair treatments
  • PreArt.

PreArt, she explained, “pulls out chlorine, dirt, dandruff, and over-dyed color, to even out [new] hair color.  I do this to remove buildup; if someone swims a lot; before or after coloring.”  Her focus is “coloring in general,” and she enjoys giving clients something “totally different.”

It is “relaxing to rub someone’s feet” during a pedicure, Beswick said.  How soon does hair grow back after waxing?  She answered, “Three to six weeks.”

Not all cosmetologists offer updo’s and elegant hair styling for proms or weddings.  Beswick revels in glamour–braids are her specialty, with “a lot of different looks.”  She is certified in application of Cinderella extensions, made of 100% human hair.  A consultation is required first, to determine the amount of natural hair a person has.  Extension pieces start “about $200.”  Some installation techniques can last “from four-to-over six months.”

Makeup and false eyelash applications are available for female customers.

Beswick attended Ashford University for two years, planning a career as an Elementary educator.  She began the Capri Cosmetology program in June 2013.  Since September 2014, she also has taught tap, ballet, and hip hop classes, to grades four through eight in Dixon, IL, at Post House Ballroom.  She previously taught classes for two years at LeAnn’s (Schaefer) Dance Connection, Morrison.
