Morrison High School Varsity Wrestling Coach Tony Wright submitted the following report from meets against Mercer County and Rockridge, on Saturday, January 18, 2014.
The wrestling team competed in Aledo, IL, against Mercer County and Rockridge. The Mustangs went into the meet a little banged up from recent injuries but hungry for another Conference win. As it turned out, the Mustangs were prepared for the Rockets of Rockridge and pinned their way to a 42-30 win. Senior Tom Kohl gutted out a hard overtime victory over Justice Wells to seal the deal for the Mustangs.
Banged up and needing to sit some wrestlers due to overscheduling, the Mustangs focused on some individual match-ups with State series implications. Those that wrestled competed hard–which will give them an edge come the end of the season. The highlight of the meet was Joe Eads bumping up a weight class to 113 lbs. to avenge an earlier loss to #7 Drake Stirn. Eads scored the lone takedown of the match, which was enough to earn a 2-1 decision.
The Mustang Wrestling Team improves to 18-9 on the season and sits in 2nd in the Conference standings, with an 8-2 Conference record.
