Wrestlers End Dual Season with Victory!

Wrestling Coach Tony Wright submitted the following Varsity report.

The Mustang Wrestling team finished their dual meet season on Thursday, January 30, 2014, with a 44-24 victory over West Carroll.  The team victory caps a 22-9 dual meet record.  This sets a new school record for dual meet wins (prior record held by the 1983-84 team with 17.)

Freshman standout, Joe Eads picked up his team-leading 37th victory on the season with a technical fall.  Eads is chasing Matt McDonnell’s season win record of 43, set in 2012 when Matt won his State title.  Austin Keller bumped up a weight class to earn is 31st victory of the season in overtime.  Austin Shoup also bumped up a weight class and earned a pin in the first period.

The wrestling team is off until Wednesday, February 8, where they will be geared up to compete at the IHSA Regional Tournament hosted by Erie.  The Mustangs seek their first Regional title in team history.  To do so they will have to beat the likes of #8 Sherrard, #11 Mercer County, and #17 Erie/Ptown.  The team that earns the Tournament title will compete at Team Sectionals, following the individual State Tournament.  The winner of the Team Sectionals Dual qualifies to the Dual Team State Tournament as part of the Elite 8.
