The National Weather Service of the Quad Cities issued this urgent weather message on Wednesday, December 11, 2013. Precautionary actions are important.
A Wind Chill Advisory mean that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chills. This results in frostbite and hypothermia, if precautions are not taken.
Arctic high pressure will bring bitter cold wind chills tonight and Thursday morning, December 12.
A Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect from 6:00 p.m. this evening until 9:00 a.m. Thursday.
Skin can freeze! If you must venture outdoors, dress in layers and cover exposed skin.
- Winds will be from the southwest at five-to-ten MPH.
- Temperatures will be from zero-to-15 degrees below zero, slowly rising after midnight.
- Accompanying wind chill readings will be from 20-to-30 degrees below zero and my exceed 30 degrees below this evening, but these are expected to be isolated situations.
- Frostbite can result within 30 minutes, if exposed skin is not protected.
