Wilma DeWeerdt, 89, of Fulton, IL, died Monday, March 20, 2023, at Resthave Care & Rehabilitation in Morrison, IL.
Wilma was born August 31, 1933, in Fulton, to Arthur and Jennie (Hine) Decker. She was educated in the East Clinton Grade School and was a 1951 graduate of Fulton High School. She married Arthur DeWeerdt in September 1953 in Fulton. Wilma was employed at Lamson and Sessions, retiring after 25 years. She was a member of First Reformed Church, where she participated in King’s Daughters Society. Wilma delivered Meals on Wheels for many years and was a volunteer with the Friends of the Windmill and the IlIowa Thrift Store. She enjoyed reading and going to arts and crafts fairs, to purchase items to decorate her home for the different seasons and holidays, especially Christmas. She loved to travel and went on many bus trips and cruises with friends and family. Wilma loved family gatherings. Some of her fondest memories were the times spent at Uncle Emmett and Aunt Helena Keisel’s Farm.
Survivors include her daughter, Kim (Jeff) Nelson of Moline, IL; sons, David (Jackie) DeWeerdt of Omaha, NE, and Randy (Brenda) DeWeerdt of Erie, IL; five grandchildren, Kara (Ty) Wiesemeyer, Lindsey Nelson, Nicole DeWeerdt, Shelley DeWeerdt, and Allison (Andrew) Schluter; two great-grandchildren, Parker and Logan Wiesemeyer and baby girl Wiesemeyer due any day.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren, Heather and Hannah DeWeerdt.
There will be a private Funeral service.
A Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home.
Interment will be at Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL.
A memorial has been established to First Reformed Church in Fulton.
