Over 1500 rubber ducks were dumped on the floor of Community State Bank’s meeting room, 220 E. Main Street, Morrison, IL, at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. These ducklings reside at the bank, housed in black storage tubs, until some local group needs them for an event. Smothered in yellow are CSB employee and Morrison Chamber of Commerce Board member Dana Verdick, left, and Chamber Executive Director Kim Ewoldsen.
The big duck held a cryptic suggestion relating to this pile: “Save the Date, [Saturday,] Aug. 1st.” Ewoldsen vaguely elaborated about their purpose, “Watch for more details about the new Chamber event, coming August 1.”
Almost every duck wore a number on its head. Those which did not were removed from the lot, as were duckies with duplicate numbers. Ewoldsen and Verdick were joined by Board member Stephanie Vavra, and the women spent two hours
- sorting the 1500+ birds into numerical groups, i.e., 0-99; 100-199; etc.
- crossing off each number from a list compiled by Verdick
- plopping ducks into the original storage tubs, but with specific numerical group labels.
There is a reason for all that, but we will discover it later this summer with Chamber Duck Updates.
