A crisp autumn evening afforded a well-attended outdoor chili supper, hosted by White Oaks Therapeutic Equestrian Center and its volunteer base, on Friday, October 30, 2015.
The organization invited the public to celebrate under the Whiteside County Livestock Feeders Pavilion at the Whiteside County Fairgrounds, 201 W. Winfield Street, Morrison, IL, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The occasion was WHOA’s 20th anniversary.
As with all-things-WHOA, dedicated volunteers and parents of participants were on hand to support the event. Nine are shown left-to-right: Barb Kophamer; Deb Beckstrom; Kendra Kophamer; Heather Toppert; Rebecca Frederick (Mt. Carroll, IL, summer volunteer); Board Member Erin Luckey; Mary Jo Dunagan; Rick Beckstrom; Drew Hoffman.
Six portable roasters brimmed with chili–with or without grated cheddar and a dash of chili powder. There were saltines and cinnamon rolls, plus hot coffee and cider, too.
The WHOA barn had been transformed into an effective, but not too frightening, spook house. Taking their supper break, Clown and Swamp Monster joined friends and WHOA teen volunteers.
This young man, gatekeeper of the entrance, would not allow flash photographs, because “it scares the monsters” inside.
