Dunlap Lodge #321 A.F. & A. M. held their 16th Annual Golf Scramble on Saturday, August 9, 2014, at Cross Creek Golf Course, 15523 Henry Road, Morrison, IL. Coed teams of four took part in the 8:00 a.m. shotgun start from different holes, proceeding round-robin to the other 17. Course owner Dixie Vegter had lunch ready when they finished.
Each person on the team tees off from each hole. The “best ball” position becomes the spot from where everyone on the team proceeds. It is an efficient way to “scramble” down the fairway.
Former Prairie Ridge Golf Course Pro Heath Warner pronounced Cross Creek “in good shape” on this “pretty” morning. He runs a finance company in Sterling, IL, so golf is now strictly recreational. Warner’s team stopped for a photograph on hole one, sponsored by Al Wagenecht and Randy Betts (Al & Randy’s Construction) and Stephanie Vavra (thecity1.com.) Left-to-right are Erik Marsh; Chicago, IL, Teaching Pro Eric Ilic; Warner; Ian McDonald.
Floy and Bob Travis, Fenton, IL, ended their circuit with practice on the putting green. Their teammates were Morrisonians Coralyn (Cor) King and her husband, “The Mayor of Unionville,” Don “Pood” King.
The Masons awarded payouts for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd team finishers, based on the number of entries. There were flag prizes, and awards for Men and Womens’ Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin, and Longest Putt.
Some golfers are known to wear distinctive attire on the links. Perhaps the Masons will consider an award next year for Best Golf Pants. Tony Nardi, Morrison, wore these colorful pastel, gingham plaid slacks–a gift from his daughter, Janae. She purchased them in The Villages in Florida, he said, adding, “They’re brand new.”
This team included, left-to-right, Joyce Erdmann, Nardi, Warren Pruis, and Harley Erdmann. The Erdmanns are from Sterling, IL. Pruis lives at Cross Creek, as shown in the first photo.
