The Whiteside Forum will present “Think Global, Act Local: Work and the World Economy” on Friday night April 19, 2013, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Our guest speaker is Dr. Jannett Highfill, economist, editor, and poet.
This event will be held in the Community Room of the Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL, with registration starting at 7:00. The program is free and open to the public.
Introductory Speaker is Dean Stone of Eastern Iowa Community College District.
Dr. Highfill is a published poet, Editor of “Global Economy Journal,” President of the Missouri Valley Economics Association, and a Professor in the Department of Economics at Bradley University in Peoria, IL. She specializes in international economics, international trade, and international monetary economics.
She will speak to the topic of “The economics of globalization and basic international comparisons,” followed by a moderated audience question-and-answer period.
- We hear a lot about the lack of jobs, globalization, being too-big-to-fail, debt, austerity, and bailouts, but what does it all mean?
- How do our industries compete for market share, labor, materials, and capital?
- Who creates jobs?
- Who should care for the “have-nots?”
- How do we prevent or moderate financial crisis?
Come with your own questions. Let Dr. Highfill be our guide in understanding how the world economy affects us all.
