In the not-so-distant past, on Fridays and Saturdays, Thomson, IL, area men played ball on the diamonds behind Thomson School. They drew a crowd. Popcorn, soda, hot dogs, nachos, and various treats were sold at the old and new concession stands.
Who can forget Junior St. Ores, Max Meakins, Duke Hebeler, Rich Buckley, and so many others umpiring, with the crowd egging them on?
Farther back we enjoyed the fast-pitch “Melon Tossers,” Speed, Bud, Jerry, Merle, Bubby, Don, and so many others.
For the Thomson Sesquicentennial, the Boys Alumni Committee, headed by Jerry Biederman at 815-499-5135, would like to invite any who have played for any team from Thomson, YCHS, or West Carroll to contact him.
