What’s Happening at the Fair?

The Whiteside County Fair has an amazing lineup of entertainment! The Fair opens on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, and ends after five amazing days on Saturday, August 16.  The 144th annual fair, held at the fairgrounds in Morrison, IL, is sure to please all who attend.

Winner of NBC’s “The Sing-Off” and Columbia Records Recording Artists, “Home Free” will entertain on the main stage in front of the grandstands on Wednesday. This amazing, Country a cappella group will harmonize their voices and sing some of your favorite current songs, along with mixing in a couple of their own that will soon find their way to your playlist.

On Thursday, Solution Action Sports performing their Freestyle Madness Tour will thrill the crowd, as riders on BMX bikes and FMX motorcycles perform various tricks in front of the grandstands. The riders will impress as they perform acrobatic moves, all while on two wheels! Whether you’re a cowboy or a cowboy at heart, you won’t want to miss this first time event at our fair: Ranch Sorting will take place in the Gold Star Arena on Thursday.  This event puts horse and rider and their ability to sort cattle against a clock. Sorting will start at noon.

 Here is a schedule of the day’s main events.

Tuesday, August 12, the evening grandstand entertainment is “Pro-Bull Riding” at 7:00 p.m.  Other events are the Western Horse Show at 8:00 a.m., Open & Jr. Swine Judging at noon and 4:30 p.m., Kids Pedal Pull at 2:00 p.m., and Rabbit Judging at 6:00 p.m.

Wednesday, August 13, “Home Free” will take the main stage in front of the grandstand.  They will please your ears and bring a smile to your face singing their Country style of a cappella music at 7:00 p.m.  Western Horse speed events will start the day off at 8:00 a.m., and at 9:00 a.m. the Dairy will be judged.

Thursday, August 14, grandstand entertainment is the “Freestyle Madness Tour” by Solution Action Sports. Freestyle BMX and FMX riders will perform their tricks starting at 7:00 p.m.  That morning in front of the grandstand at 9:00 a.m., the Heavy Horse Hitches will be judged.  Also at 9:00 a.m. the Beef Cattle-Jr. Heifer/Jr. Steer will be judged at the Beef Show Arena.

Friday, August 15, Tractors and Trucks will pull the sled in front of the grandstand at 6:30 p.m., right after the Antique Tractor Parade that starts at 5:45 p.m. During the morning at 9:00 a.m. the Heavy Horse Halter Classes will be seen from the grandstand.  The Open Beef Show will be judged in the Beef Show Arena at 9:00, also.  Harness Racing will take over the track at 1:30 p.m. to entertain everyone in the grandstand during the afternoon races.

Saturday, August 16, the Demolition Derby will finish off the fair’s five-day evening attractions at 6:30 p.m.  Harness Racing is back on the track at 1:00 p.m.  Other events on Saturday are the Horseshoe Tournament at 10:00 a.m. and Kids Pedal Pull at 11:00 a.m.  As always, the fair board strives to provide something for everyone, young and old alike.

Wilson Family Rides will entertain kids and adults with their outstanding carnival and midway attractions, providing a festive and fun time.  Grandpa Cratchet Stage Show will return, along with our Bike Give Away each day of the fair and the Cake/Pie Walk.
