What’s Happenin’ In and Around Morrison?

Rebecca Green submitted the following April 2015 activities.  The Morrison Chamber of Commerce office will be closed on Friday, April 3, 2015, in observance of Good Friday.  May you and your families have a blessed Easter!

The Morrison Community Hospital Auxiliary, 303 N. Jackson Street, will host a Books are Fun Book and Gift Fair on Friday, April 10, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The public is invited to stop by for a great selection of books and gift items for spring.

Join the Friends of the Parks Foundation for the upcoming “Trivia for the Trail…the Trek Continues” night.  This event will be held on Saturday, April 11, at 6:30 p.m. at Cross Creek Golf Course, 15523 Henry Road, Morrison.  Pre-register your eight-person team name and players’ names by Tuesday, April 7, to friendsoftheparksmorrison@gmail.com or call 815-772-7966.  Cost is $10 per player. 

Yoga by Martina will hold an Introduction to Reiki Self-Care class on Friday, April 17, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.  This class is meant to give a comfortable working definition of what Reiki and related touch therapies are and are not.  Cost is $25 per person, and appointments for Reiki are available preceding and following the class.  Register by calling Renee at 309-496-9006. 

Community State Bank, 220 E. Main Street, is celebrating their 40th Anniversary on April 24th.  Stop by to enjoy lots of excitement in the lobby, giveaways, drawings, and some big Grand Prizes starting mid-April through the middle of May.  Congratulations on your 40th Anniversary!

Upcoming Meetings/Programs

Is your building/business located in a National Historic District?  Then this meeting is for you.  A free National Register Historic District Benefits Meeting will be held Tuesday, April 21, at 6:30 p.m, in the Community Room of the Odell Public Library, 307 S, Madison Street, Morrison.  Program speaker, Darius Bryjka from the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, will discuss how to maximize possible economic benefits of this program.  Earlier in the day, a representative from the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency will be available for building site visits and one-on-one consultations.  Register for this in advance by contacting Barb King at City Hall at 815-772-7657.

The IL PTAC at Black Hawk College invites you to attend a free training session about the 8A Program, Sole Sourcing, Competitive Contracting, Women-Owned Business Certification, and the Mentor Protégé program.  This presentation will be held on Thursday, April 23, from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

Join the Whiteside County Senior Center for a Medicare Information Class at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 10.  They will provide basic information to help Community members who are new to Medicare, and those who want more information, to make a more informed decision, when it comes to their options with Medicare.  The Outreach Department staff are trained Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) volunteer counselors.  SHIP is a free counseling service provided by the Illinois Department of Insurance.  Call 815-622-9230 to register for this class; there is no charge.

Join the Whiteside County Senior Center for a Golder Care Presentation on Thursday, April 16, at 10:30 a.m.  GolderCare Solutions (GCS) is a private independent advocacy group for seniors and those who are disabled.  Being a multi-specialty team, GCS is able to help clients safely navigate the complexities of long-term care and medical systems, insurance, asset protection, and Government benefits.

” Fly Away With Me,” the 2015 Saint Mary Church Father Daughter Dance, is scheduled for Friday, April 10, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., with pictures beginning at 6:30.  Fathers/male family escorts are $20, and daughters are free.  Tickets are available at the door, and the public is welcome to attend.

The Morrison Seahorse Swim Club Soil Sale will be held Saturday, April 18, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the old Farmer’s Elevator on Madison and Market Streets.  Enter from Route 30 or Route 78 and drive through.  For $3, you will receive two 40 lb. bags of soil.  For delivery, please call Andy Henson at 815-772-4130.  Deliveries will be made on Saturday, April 18.
