The Federal Bureau of Prisons will be holding a Job Fair for a variety of jobs at the U. S. Penitentiary in Thomson, IL, and it’s not just prison guards that are needed. The list includes healthcare and support jobs, as well as office help, carpenters and even auto mechanics. The Job Fair will be held Tuesday, September 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Wednesday, September 17, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Thursday, September 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at AUSP Thomson, 1100 One Mile Road, Thomson. Northside Elementary School, 520 N. Genesee Streeet, will hold an Open House on Thursday, September 18, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Parents will have the opportunity to meet their children’s teachers, visit their classrooms, and sign up for volunteer opportunities.
The Morrison Diet Club would like to invite all ladies interested in losing weight to join them at their weekly meetings at the Bethesda Lutheran Church basement, 301 W. South Street. CGH Medical Center, along with on-site certified technicians from the Whiteside and Lee County Health Departments and the Sterling and Dixon Police Departments, will conduct a “National Seat Check Saturday” event on Saturday, September 20, at the Rock Falls Fire Department, 1013 7th Avenue, Rock Falls, IL. Certified child passenger safety technicians will be on hand from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to check car seats for proper installation and advise parents and caregivers how to choose the right car seats and install them properly in their vehicles. The event, part of CGH’s participation in National Child Passenger Safety Week, September 14 through 20, is free to the public.
Crossroads Community Church will celebrate five years in the Morrison community with a special service, “Unplugged,” to be held at Rockwood State Park at the Lakeview North and South Shelters, on Sunday, September 21, at 10:00 a.m. Join us for this special worship experience! Attendees are asked to bring a picnic lunch for their families to enjoy following the service. In case of rain, the service will be held at Morrison Institute of Technology, 701 Portland Avenue.

Live in Concert…Legacy Five! Continuing with its 2014 concert series, Emmanuel Reformed Church, 202 E. Morrison’s High School Homecoming Parade will be held on Friday, September 26, beginning at 3:00 p.m. The Disney-themed parade will start at E. Main Street and proceed south on Genesee Street.
United Way of Whiteside County is hosting a Chili Cook-off at the Harvest Moon Festival, Saturday, October 11, downtown Sterling, IL, at the corner of E. Fourth Street and First Avenue. Get your foursome together for the April House Children’s Advocacy Center Golf Outing, Saturday, September 27, starting at 10:00 a.m. at Cross Creek Golf Course, 15523 Henry Road. The four-person, best-ball scramble is $60 per individual, which includes 18 holes of golf with half a cart and lunch. April House is the only agency in Whiteside County to provide specialized services exclusively to children who have been abused or neglected.
