What Is Morrison Athletic Booster Club All About ?

Posted by

BoostersLogo2Many of us have heard of the Athletic Boosters; maybe we know a bit about what they do.  We see them at the Fair, at all the football game concessions, selling 50/50 or chuck-a-puck chances, placing homecoming signs in players’ yards, and proudly cheering on the Colts, Fillies, and Mustangs at High and Junior High School events.

You may have purchased a membership, were contacted to work at the Fair or sporting event gate, or have volunteered to grill pork chops.  So what does all of this mean for our student-athletes?

The Booster Club has been able to make many much-needed purchases and supplement sports in a variety of ways.  Just in the last two academic years, the Booster Club has funded $47,024 in equipment and tournament fees.  These purchases include the following items:  baseball and softball catchers’ gear; Boy’s and Girl’s basketball Krossover programs; a portion of agility bags, blocks, and dummies, $5000 toward helmets, $2500 toward Hudl subscription, head set reconditioning, and wrist coaches for football; softball training equipment; a portion of swim team benches; 10 hurdles, starting blocks, cross bar, vault pad perimeter, printer, tape measures, high jump stands, flags, and shots for track and field; storage racks, balls, net system and targets for volleyball; wireless scoreboard equipment, basketballs, and volleyballs for the Junior Hgh; rim pads for basketball hoops.

This year we are excited to be partnering with the High School to bring you an on-line, streaming option to watch some of our athletic events from anywhere.  So, Grandma and Grandpa who may winter in Texas can watch some of your basketball games!  Additionally, the Boosters commit each year nearly $7000 in tournament fees, for teams to participate in events outside of their regular season.

Do you have a student-athlete in Junior High or High School?  The Athletic Booster Club is looking for your help.  Before you think, “I can’t possibly get involved in one more thing,” or “being on the Boosters looks like a ton of work, they are always doing so much,” be assured that there is a way for you to support our athletic program at any level.  For so many years, it really has been the same small, committed group of individuals doing a major portion of the heavy lifting.  As some of our members’ children have graduated, it is time for others to step in and take the reins.  It is the Boosters’ goal to involve even more parents and spread out the responsibility…and the fun!

A few upcoming opportunities for you to volunteer include:

  • working the Fair gate (Luann Wieneke 815-441-9040)
  • assisting the pork and food stand at the Fair (Karen Stralow 815-632-7908)
  • working in the grandstand concessions (LuEllen Lee 815-499-2683.)

Or contact these Booster Board Members:  Carrie Melton, Lisa Sage, Ken Stralow, Jackie Tichler, and Brandy Darby.

The Boosters meet at 6:30 p.m., at the High School on the second Wednesday of every month.  Join us Wednesday, June 13, 2018, to learn more.

Follow us on Facebook in order to see any upcoming events, announcements, or meeting changes.  All meetings are open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend.
