Ways to Support C.O.P.S. in May

Posted by

Editor’s note:  This article was submitted by Sergeant Kristopher Schmidt, Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office.

For the past several years, the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office and other local law enforcement agencies have teamed with the local Illinois C.O.P.S. (Concerns of Police Survivors) Chapter, to help raise money for the C.O.P.S. Foundation.  In 2016, there were 144 Law Enforcement Officers killed in the line-of-duty (https://www.odmp.org/search/year/2016).  That averages to an Officer death every 2.5 days.

So, what happens to support their families and co-workers?  That is where C.O.P.S. comes into play, along with providing training for agencies.  This organization works miracles, and I take heart in the fact that there is something to help my family in case the need arises.

I ask for the public’s support of the following events during Law Enforcement Memorial Week.  Any support is greatly appreciated!

  • Saturday, May 13, 2017–Whiteside County Sheriff Kelly Wilhelmi and Deputies will wash vehicles during the C.O.P.S. Car Wash, at Super Wash, Inc., 707 W. Lincolnway, Morrison, IL, from 9:00 a.m. to noon.  All proceeds go towards C.O.P.S.
  • Wednesday, May 17, 2017–Whiteside County Sheriff Kelly Wilhelmi and Deputies will serve food at Culver’s, 1901 Harley Davidson Drive, Rock Falls, IL, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.  Ten percent of sales goes towards C.O.P.S.  Culver’s will be receiving the “C.O.P.S. Eternal Flame Award” for their continued support.
  • I am selling t-shirts sponsored by Relentless Defender; buy one for $20 or two for $30.  Please email me with your requests:  kschmidt@whiteside.org.
  • Direct donations can be accepted at the Illinois C.O.P.S. website https://ilcops.org/.

Please spread the word.  “All gave some; some gave all.”
