Since its origin in 1927, one Morrison, IL, women’s service organization has benefited local residents, students, and organizations. Wa-Tan-Ye was organized 92 years ago. Members are persons who are interested in giving service to their communities.
Member Dorothy DeMay said, “We always are looking for new members to join us and see what Wa-Tan-Ye is all about.”
They are pictured during a June 30, 2018, fundraising program, at Morrison United Methodist Church, 200 W. Lincolnway. You always will find the Wa-Tan-Ye volunteers in the same location each September. They sponsor the sandwiches, snacks, desserts, and beverages for American Red Cross blood donors.
Look for a spokesperson this spring during Honors Night at Morrison High School. Wa-Tan-Ye presents a student with a $500 scholarship. In addition, their fundraising efforts benefit five local organizations, with gifts of $100 each. “The money [raised] goes back to the community,” stated DeMay.
Six members of Morison Wa-Tan-Ye met at 6:00 p.m., on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Windsor Manor Assisted Living Community, 403 Scenic Street, Morrison. President Monica Anderson opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance; a business meeting was conducted with Committee Reports. “Happy Birthday” was sung to the ladies with January birthdays.
Wa-Tan-Ye meets the second Tuesday of each month at Windsor Manor. The next meeting is February 12, at 6:00 p.m. Member Clarita Vandermyde will discuss upcoming, comprehensive renovations at Morrison Community Hospital.
