Volunteers Clean the Town

Posted by

As a gesture of civic pride, 11 volunteers picked up debris left by others along Main Street.  They gathered at the Chamber of Commerce office, 221 W. Main Street, Morrison, IL, at 9:00 a.m., on Saturday, September 9, 2017.   The Chamber solicited help in preparation for the Harvest Hammer 5K and Duathlon/Color Run and Paint the Town events, on Saturday, September 16.

Chamber Board Member and City Alderman Josh West was asked about the contents of his trash bag.  He commented, “Thousands of cigarette butts.  I thought Pall Malls were no longer popular, but today’s trash proved me wrong!”

Some of the adults, standing left-to-right, are West, Alderman Harvey Zuidema, Missy Banks, Karla Green, Pastor Craig Sipes, and Martina Maxfield.  In front are Lilah Layne, age 9, and Madison Banks, 11.

Chamber of Commerce Coordinator Meridith Layne took the group photograph.  She enlisted her father, David Coventry of Morrison, to chaperone his granddaughters, Muira, age 4, and Lilah.  The siblings also distributed doughnuts to the helpers.
