BlindSide“The Blind Side,” a remarkable true story of the Baltimore Ravens offensive left tackle, Michael Oher, has been chosen to welcome fall and football fever.  The movie will be shown in the Program Room at Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL, beginning at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, September 9, 2014  Complete with the smell of popcorn, the movie promises to bring both a tear to the eye and a cheer to the heart.

The plot revolves around Michael, who grew up in an inner-city housing project known as “Hurt Village.”  His story begins with his homeless situation. Because of his life with a drug-addicted mother and absentee father, he was placed in a foster home.  Unfortunately, he bounces from one home to another, and, now as a teenager, he realizes he’d rather be homeless.

Michael is a quiet young man, big in size, with a childish personality.  School is difficult for him.  Only his science teacher recognizes that he learns in a different way than the other kids.  Lonely, he is befriended by S. J. Tuohy.

One icy winter night, Michael is walking down the road to the school gym where he sleeps.  Leigh Anne Tuohy, her husband Sean, and their children pick him up and take him home for the night.  Soon Leigh Anne offers him not only a room and a bed but also the chance to succeed.  When he shows an interest in football, she gets “the ball rolling.”

Sandra Bullock stars as Leigh Anne Tuohy, and Tim McGraw is her husband, Sean.  With the help of a caring woman and her family, Michael Oher, a homeless and traumatized boy, becomes an All-American football player and a first round draft pick, in the National Football League.

Come and watch as this remarkable story is told.  It is truly a heart-warming account of respect, hard work, and courage.
