The Carroll-Jo Daviess Daughters of the American Revolution in conjunction with the Department of Defense, honored veterans of the Viet Nam War from Lanark, Mt. Carroll, and Shannon, IL, in a ceremony at the Heritage Center in Lanark, on Saturday, November 19, 2016.

  • Each veteran was presented with a certificate from the Department of Defense and a lapel pin.
  • A special charge coin, provided by the National Society DAR, was presented to each Commander of the American Legions attending.
  • A specially-printed scene of a Blackhawk helicopter in action in Vietnam, by a veteran from Galena, IL, was presented to each.
  • JoLynn Kruse provided special music.
  • The Charles Carroll Society, Children of the American Revolution, assisted in the presentations.
  • Refreshments were served by the chapter.

In charge of the presentation was First Vice-Regent Connie Foster, with Regent Gwen Smith and Vice President General Luanne Bruckner assisting.

This is the fourth and final Carroll County presentation by the DAR, who has partnered with the Department of Defense for this 50th Anniversary of the War in Vietnam. These presentations are an effort to officially provide the veterans appreciation for their service in Vietnam. Two more presentations are planned in the future in Daviess and Stephenson Counties.

The Daughters of the American Revolution is an organization of women who can prove their lineage to a patriot of the Revolutionary War. The Carroll-Jo Daviess Chapter currently includes members from Carroll, Jo Daviess, and Stephenson Counties. They promote education, patriotism, historic preservation, and citizenship.
