Veterans Invited to Savanna Bridge Dedication

Posted by

Dear Veteran,

DaleGardnerPlaqueThe Cities of Savanna, IL, and Sabula, IA, would like to invite you to attend and participate in the events that we are currently planning, to celebrate the dedication of the newly-opened Dale Gardner Veterans Memorial Bridge across the Mississippi River.

An outstanding assortment of activities and events are being organized.  We will dedicate the bridge to honor and commemorate the service of Dale Gardner and you, our local veterans who are the namesakes of this historic new landmark.  Click here to see a two-page brochure with more detail.

We would be truly honored and grateful to have each of you and many of your veteran brothers and sisters participate.  Please pass the word to other veteran friends and acquaintances.

With your help we can make this a once-in-a-lifetime event for our communities.

Father’s Day weekend, Saturday, June 16, and Sunday, June 17, 2018, will be the focus of the events and activities.  This will also be Savanna’s annual Alumni Weekend, which will bring many former classmates and residents back to Savanna to participate in our festivities.  Highlights of our weekend activities include:

1.   exhibits and programs at the Savanna Historical Society
2.   traveling exhibit “Journey to Tomorrow” from NASA’s Glenn Research Center
3.   Veterans Parade honoring local vets with floats, marching bands, and veteran dignitaries
4.   Veteran Memorial Ceremony in Marquette Park, honoring deceased veterans
