Vernon R. Medendorp (1939 -2024)

Vernon R. Medendorp, 85, of Fulton, IL, died Monday, December 16, 2024, at Resthave Care & Rehabilitation in Morrison, IL.

Vern was born on August 31, 1939, in Garden Plain Township, Whiteside County, IL, to Cornelius and Winnie (Prins) Medendorp.  He was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools and was a graduate of Thomson High School in Thomson, IL.  He was a veteran of the U. S. Army National Guard.  On June 2, 1962, he married Janet R. Bramm in Fulton.  Vern first worked at Baar’s Potato Farm, and then he ground feed for Smitty’s Portable Grain Service.  Vern was a Teamster, driving for FS and Standard Forwarding Trucking.  After retirement he enjoyed hauling corn for many local farmers.  He was a former member of Trinity Reformed Church in Fulton.  He enjoyed being outdoors working on his lawn and garden.  His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Janet; sons, Gene (Sara) Medendorp of Morrison, Gary (Marla) Medendorp of Bettendorf, IA, and Daniel (Melissa) Medendorp of Fulton; five grandchildren, Jacob Medendorp, Jodi (Ryan) Scott, Stephanie (Erik) Sorensen, Kyle Medendorp, and MiKayla Medendorp; six great-grandchildren, Kellan, Harrison, and Adallyn Sorensen; Rory, Corinne, and Hayden Scott.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Leona Kramer and Wilma Johannsen; brother, Harold Medendorp.

Funeral and Graveside Services are private, and there will be no Visitation.

The Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Interment will be in the Garden Plain Cemetery, Fulton, IL.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be given to the Good Samaritan Society and MercyOne Hospice.
