Vernon Sidney Milnes, Sr., age 86 of Milledgeville, IL, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Sterling Pavilion Nursing Home, Sterling, IL.
Vernon was born on October 18, 1927, in Morrison, IL, to Sidney and Edna (Swanson) Milnes. He married Rhea Clary on February 18, 1948, in Morrison. Vernon was a lifelong farmer and a long-time member of Hope Methodist Church in Chadwick, IL.
Survivors include his wife, Rhea of Milledgeville; four daughters, Peggy (Dennis) Doering of Prophetstown, IL, Janet Compton of St. Augustine, FL, Carol Hill of Eureka, IL, and Sharon (Mitch) Woodard of Milledgeville; two sons, Vernon Milnes, Jr., of Fulton, IL, and Melvin (Sue) Milnes of Forreston, IL; one brother, Virgil (Janet) Milnes of Prophetstown; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Pearl; one grandson; two sisters; one daughter-in-law and one son-in-law.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the McDonald Funeral Home in Milledgeville, IL, and on Thursday, March 20, 2014, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., at the Hope United Methodist Church in Chadwick, IL.
Funeral service will follow the visitation on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Melwyn Alagodi officiating.
Cremation rites will be accorded after the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope United Methodist Church in Chadwick, IL, or Hospice of the Rock River Valley.
