United Way Power of the Purse Fundraiser

United Way of Whiteside County will hold its 11th Annual Power of the Purse To Raise Money for Children’s Books event. The online auction is open to the public. The fundraiser is from 8:00 a.m., on Wednesday, September 29, 2022, through 9:00 p.m., on Tuesday, October 4. The benefits the L.I.F.E. (Literacy Is Fun for Everyone) program. L.I.F.E. provides a free book every month from the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, to all children from birth to age 5 in Whiteside County.

Auction bidders will be able to bid on more than 100 purses, baskets, and gift certificates that have been donated by area businesses and organizations. Click here to see the options Power of the Purse Fundraiser. Check often for new items and to follow bid changes.

The auction boasts a variety of items from local individuals and businesses, such as designer purses stuffed with accessories; a Culver’s party with a visit from their mascot, Scoopie. Bidders may be interested in the ten-day condo rental on Hutchinson Island, FL, or desserts made just for the auction winner.

“The proceeds of this auction make sure that high quality books are available at no charge to every child in Whiteside County,” said Power of the Purse Chair, Betty Clementz. “Since 2010, it’s been incredibly powerful to see how deeply the community cares about growing generations of young readers.”

United Way will run the auction through an online auction platform, designed for ease of use and security. “You can track and manage your bids even while on the go,” said United Way CEO Keri Olson. “The bidding site is safe and secure, and it allows winners to pay online or in person at the United Way office.”

Preview items at the United Way office during regular hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday; at 502 1st Avenue, Sterling, IL, starting on Monday, September 27.
