PBJSandwichThe United Way of Whiteside County FREE summer lunch program will begin Tuesday, May 30, 2017, across Whiteside County.  This will be the 16th year of program.

Lunches in Morrison are being served beginning on Tuesday, May 30, and then every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at the Crave Building, 201 Market Street Lunches are served between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.  Anyone, of any age, who needs one may receive a free lunch.

In 2016, United Way served over 34,000 free lunches.  Nearly 200 volunteers from local churches, other organizations, and many corporate partners will prepare the brown bag lunches for children, at various sites in Sterling, Rock Falls, Morrison, Prophetstown, Tampico, Fulton, Erie, Lyndon, and Albany, IL.

Area churches held “Peanut Butter and Jelly Sunday” on Mother’s Day, May 14, in order to provide supplies for the food sites.  Businesses fonated peranut butter and jelly this year, as well.

Many thanks to the Sterling–Rock Falls YMCA and Bushel Basket for your support in asking “How can we help”!  Sauk Valley Foodbank serves as the warehouse for all the food used during the 11 weeks.  The Foodbank is also able to buy many of the supplies needed in bulk.  Thanks also to Walmart Distribution Center 7024 for their donation of the fresh fruit that will be available this year.

On Tuesday, May 30, serving will begin at all of the sites except Sterling, to begin on Wednesday May 31, and Prophetstown, which will begin the following Tuesday.

No one is turned away, and there are no questions asked.

Donations for the “Let’s Feed Our Children FREE Summer Lunch Program” can be mailed to Post Office Box 806, Sterling, IL 61081.

Volunteers are still needed to help with the preparation of the sandwiches.  If you would like to help, call the United Way at 815-625-7973.
