The Whiteside County Airport will host its Second Annual Aviation Career Day, on Saturday, September 22, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The location is 10950 Hoover Road, Rock Falls, IL.
ExpressJet Airlines will fly in a 50-passenger, United Airlines/United Express Embraer 145 Regional. It will be on display during the event and offer exclusive tours of the airplane and flight deck, to persons interested in aviation. This is a unique and rare opportunity to see a commercial jet up close and personal.
Multiple other aircraft will also be on display:
- training aircraft from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale; Lewis University, Romeoville, IL; University of Dubuque, Dubuque,IA
- an air ambulance helicopter operated by Mercyhealth REACT
- crop spraying aircraft
- local area aviation businesses’ training airplanes
- many others.
Five different regional airlines will have pilots, flight attendants, and maintenance personnel available to answer questions about their career fields. They will be actively recruiting for those positions. Chicago Rockford International Airport Air Traffic Controllers and Chicago Approach and Tower Controllers will be available to answer questions about becoming an air traffic controller.
United States Army and Illinois Air National Guard will answer questions about the military route in aviation.
In addition, the Whiteside Civil Air Patrol will be actively recruiting youth for Cadet positions and adults for Officer positions in the United States Air Force Auxiliary Squadron.
Educational activities for kids will be available, and completion will help them earn Whiteside County Airport Junior Pilot Wings, presented by actual airline pilots.
