A large maple tree has provided welcoming shade in front of the Morrison Historical Society for over a dozen years. The building at 202 E. Lincolnway, Morrison, IL, previously housed Odell Public Library. In the library’s past history the tree was planted, and it lived a long life. During late June 2013, a large limb was torn from the east side of the tree. It damaged the neighboring Whiteside County Court Services/Probation building. The tree was disassembled on Wednesday, August 7.
Gene Ryan sliced the tree into manageable chunks and dropped them to the ground. He deftly maneuvered the bucket to find the best attack point. Two ground men dragged branches to the nearby shredder, making maple mulch.
Ryan said he had “trimmed it seven or eight years ago,” to prevent the wind from grabbing and breaking limbs. He has “stump and dirt work to do” to complete the task. He also “would like to make the yard flat” where the tree used to live.
Ryan’s Tree Service, Inc. is located at 23454 Emerson Road, Sterling, IL.
