Editor’s note: Morrison Junior High Prinicipal Darryl Hogue submitted the following article. Click here to see the map of parking lot changes.
To increase safety for students who use the parking lot between the Junior High and Southside school, the [Morrison Community Unit] District [#6] has worked closely with Police Chief [Brian] Melton and the City of Morrison[, IL,] to improve traffic patterns in the parking lot and on Academic Drive.
Buses will enter and exit the main parking lot in a one-way direction, both during the [morning] drop-off and [afternoon] pick-up. Sixth grade students will be moved to the front of the Junior High as they wait for school to start. Junior High parents must use the loop parallel/closest to Academic Drive as a drop-off point in the morning and pick-up site after school. Traffic through the drop/pick-up loop will remain one-way at all times. When exiting the loop onto Academic Drive, drivers will be able to turn right or left.
Southside Parents will not be allowed to drop-off students in the main parking lot between the Junior High and Southside. Please use the one-way drop off loop in front of Southside [School]. Dropping off a student on Academic Drive is not the safest drop-off location.
The new traffic patterns will begin Monday, May 5, 2014. Please note that this is an attempt to make the parking lot, Academic Drive, and schools as safe as possible. If we feel additional changes are beneficial and/or the new patterns create more student safety issues, the School District, Police Department, and the City of Morrison will continue to refine the process. Do not hesitate to contact myself or Chief Melton if you have concerns, questions, or suggestions.
