“I’m thrilled at the opportunity to be serving the community where I grew up,” stated Tracy Banks-Geiger, as she brings her skill set to Morrison Community Hospital (MCH), 303 N. Jackson Street, Morrison, IL, on Thursday, January 15, 2015. Appointments are in place already, so she will begin in earnest.
Geiger is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, having earned Masters Degrees in Social Work as well as Human Development and Family Studies. She has previous experience working with non-profit organizations in Chicago, IL, and–for the last four years–the Whiteside County Health Department.
“I…have worked in the field since 2001 and will…provid[e] mental health and behavior health support and therapy; counseling; mental health education to clients of all ages, [from] children through adults.”
“I meet with each client to do a thorough assessment, create a diagnosis, and [if needed] make appropriate referrals. I can monitor a client’s psychiatric medication and symptoms,” for anxiety or depression, as examples, she stated, but she does not prescribe them. Nor does Geiger conduct psychological tests.
She continued, “I provide support for a range of folks–from people with severe and chronic mental illness, to someone struggling to cope with the everyday stresses of life.”
There are numerous life stressors that lead to anxiety, sleeplessness, or depression:
- illness, injury, hospitalization
- abuse or neglect
- death of a loved one
- finances
- job changes, retirement, unemployment
- legal problems.
Her services might include counseling for couples; parents or teachers having trouble with youths; those considering divorce, moving, or a job change.
“I am a sounding board, and I will refer clients” who need specialized advice.
Who refers clients to a Clinical Social Worker like Geiger? “Teachers, doctors, parents, and individuals who need help.” She offers counseling to those who need to “unload their thoughts and feelings about making life decisions, relationships, handling children, or any stressor.” Her support gives a perspective, without being judgmental.
“We all have our ups and downs. It is nice to have somebody to talk to,” she concluded.
If you need someone outside your social circle to discuss your life challenges or mental health issues, Tracy Banks-Geiger is a phone call away. Schedule an appointment at MCH by calling 815-772-4003.
MCH accept Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, and self-pay for Geiger’s services. “We serve everybody, regardless of income or insurance,” she explained.
