Alta Mae Venema, 91, of Morrison, IL, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Friday, October 3, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, IA.
Alta Mae was born November 19, 1922, in Garden Plain, IL, to Peter H. and Margaret (Jaarsma) Haan. She was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools and was a graduate of Fulton High School in Fulton. She attended Scovill Business College in Clinton, IA. Alta Mae married Peter J. Venema on February 27, 1947, in Fulton. He died May 24, 1982. She was first employed as a teller by the former Fulton State Bank and the First Trust and Savings Bank in Albany, IL. She later was employed as a medical records clerk for Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, IA, retiring in 1984. Alta Mae was a member of Second Reformed Church in Fulton, the church’s Willing Workers Society, and a member of the church choir. She enjoyed playing cards with the members of her weekly card group. Alta Mae also enjoyed reading and working jigsaw and word search puzzles.
Survivors include one daughter, Beth (Robert) Edens-Fuller of Silvis, IL, and one sister, Teresa Timmons of Morrison, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter; one son-in-law, Ronald Edens; three brothers, Louis Haan, Henry Haan, and one in infancy.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL
