Tim Schares, 62, of Morrison, IL, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, at the Clarissa Cook Hospice Home in Bettendorf, IA.
Tim was born to Justin and Dorothy (Rouse) Schares in Cedar Rapids, IA, the first of eight children. He was raised in many cities in the Midwest, adjusting to new schools and making new friends wherever he landed. He attended five grade schools and five high schools and never got kicked out of a single one. His early years were in Iowa, his high school years were in Minnesota, and finally, he graduated in South Dakota. Tim entered the Navy in 1975, serving over eight years as a Reactor Operator in their nuclear power program. Following his Navy service, he devoted 30 years to the electric power generation industry, retiring in 2015. In the middle of all that, he also became a Massage Therapist, providing pain relief and relaxed smiles to many. He used his skill several times, massaging fellow RAGBRAI bicyclists while crossing the State of Iowa.
Tim married Paula Lange in Pocatello, ID, while still in the Navy. Together they raised four amazing people of whom they are extremely proud: Peter, Katie, Luke, and Beatrice. Tim and Paula enjoyed many activities together, including bicycling, square dancing, kayaking, playing cards, and traveling. One of their favorite vacations was a trip to Australia and New Zealand.
Tim was known for his strong work ethic, great hugs, love of family, and seeing the lighter side of life.
A virtual Mass will be said on Saturday, May 23, 2020, at 11:00 a.m., on Facebook at St. Mary Church, Morrison, IL.
