Have you admired the greenery-draped lampposts along the Morrison, IL, downtown streets?
Hundreds of feet of artificial evergreens were hauled from storage and entwined around lampposts, during the week of Monday, November 13, through Friday, November 17, 2017. Main Street and offshoot side streets were prepared for the Chamber of Commerce Christmas Walk, Saturday, December 5, and the holiday season.
Usually, City of Morrison employees do this prior to Thanksgiving, hoping for moderate temperatures. This year their workday often was in the 30º range.
This seasonal task involves teamwork and heavy equipment, to transport swags and to reach the top of poles. A bucket truck hoisted and lowered one of three men 100 times, during the first phase of decoration. By Friday, 17 red flocked bows–on the corner posts from Madison to Orange Street–were installed the same way.
The men to thank are Mike Garland, Dan Quick, and Scott Strobbe.
