Thomson, IL, Sesquicentennial Committee and the Chamber of Commerce have teamed up to continue its “Year to Remember.” The Sesquicentennial Committee is sponsoring a Main Street Halloween decorating contest. Jo-Carroll Energy has agreed that contestants may decorate the light poles, but cautions that no paint or hammering of nails into the poles is allowed.
The contest is open to residents of York Township. Entries may be secured by registering at the Carroll County Review Office to reserve your telephone pole. Individuals, organizations, businesses, families, or graduating classes are encouraged to claim a pole for decoration and compete for the Grand Prize of $100.
All decorations must be in place by Tuesday, October 25, 2015, for judging, Decorations must be removed by Sunday, November 1. Only ten poles remain unclaimed, so contestants are urged to sign up early.
In addition to the telephone pole decorations, the Sesquicentennial Committee is sponsoring a lawn decorating contest with a $100 prize for “Best-Decorated Lawn in York Township.” Lawn decorations will be judged on Sunday, October 25.
Both lawn and telephone pole decorations may be entered through the Carroll County Review Office in person or via P. O. Box 69, Thomson, IL, 61285, by Tuesday, October 20.
Saturday, October 31, will feature community trick-or-treating from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., according to Village Police Chief Balk.
A Halloween parade follows at 6:00, featuring the West Carroll Marching Band.
- Costumed participants are invited to march in the parade.
- A contest is sponsored by the Thomson Chamber of Commerce for the “Best-Decorated Float.”
- A $100 prize will be awarded.
- All children will receive a $1 Presidential coin.
