thomas butkusThomas John Butkus, 63, of Overland Park, KS, passed away on February 4, 2019, after battling ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease.)

Tom was born on September 22, 1955, in Morrison, IL.  He attended Morrison High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Illinois in Champagne-Urbana, IL.  He then earned his Master of Business degree at Illinois State University in Bloomington, IL.  Tom married his high school sweetheart, Annette Book, in 1977.  They lived 41 wonderful years together.  His banking career took him to Peoria, IL, then to Dallas, TX, and then to the Kansas City area, where spent the last 30 years. Tom was a dedicated, loving father to his two daughters, Katherine and Susan.  He truly lived for his children and selflessly wanted the best for them.  He loved organizing family events to Estes Park, CO, for more than 25 years, to carry on the tradition his father set in place.  His favorite pastime was spending time with those that he loved and cherished most.

Tom is survived by his wife, Annette; children, Katherine Butkus of Denver, CO, and Susan Butkus of Overland Park; mother Evelyn Butkus; two sisters, Elizabeth Wahl (Greg), Mary Butkus (Joan); three brothers, Michael (Kelly), Andrew (Debbie), and John, Jr. (Jenny); many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, John Butkus, Sr.

A visitation to celebrate his life will be held Thursday, February 7, 2019, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 9, 2019, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Morrison, IL, preceded by a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.  Rev. Father Slawomir Zimodro will officiate.

Interment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Sister Servants of Mary of Kansas City, KS, and Good Shepherd Hospice of Lenexa, KS.
