The halls of Morrison’s Southside Elementary School were a social and historical mix of parents, visitors, and students. The “Wax Museum” was the culmination of a month-long assignment for the third-grade class. It required the research and preparation for a presentation of a historical character of their choice.
Following the reading of research material related to the character, each student had to identify important events highlighting the lifetime of their individual. Each submission received a grade, and permission was given to create a poster featuring specific events from the selected person’s life. Posters had guidelines that the students were to follow, for consistent presentations at the Open House on Friday, March 24, 2023. An oral presentation and note cards were prepared for each student to present, as the visitors viewed their display.
The Southside School doors opened at 1:30 p.m. The community was welcomed into the hallways to view and interact with the miniature version of the chosen hero. Each student was appropriately costumed and gladly read their carded script to any interested visitor. The halls of proud parents, relatives, and appreciative visitors remained a social mix. Conversations [included] praise for the effort extended by the students, until the school day ended around 2:45.
Congratulations to the students of the third-grade class for a presentation that the visitors graded as A+.
