Theodore (Ted) Deter (1953 – 2017)

theodore deterTheodore (Ted) Deter died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family in Morrison, IL, on Thursday, December 7, 2017, at the age of 64.

Ted was born on September 24, 1953, in Morrison to John and Marie Deter.  He graduated from Morrison Community High School in 1971.  He married Judy Groharing, his high school sweetheart, on August 2, 1974. Ted was employed by Climco Coils, General Electric, and Groharing Mason Contractors.  He had most recently retired from Exelon Nuclear Power Station in Cordova, IL, following a 28-year career as a Radiation Technician.  Ted held many volunteer positions, including Morrison Area Ambulance, W.H.O.A. (White Oaks Therapeutic Equestrian Center), and The American Red Cross.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, riding his motorcycle, and taking riding lessons at Drinkall Stables in Milledgeville.  Ted was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.  He had a unique sense of humor, appreciated by all who knew and loved him.

Ted is survived by his wife, Judy (Groharing) Deter; children, Molly (Kevin) Reimer of Elburn, IL, and Ben (Olen Amelia) Deter of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Ethan, Abigail, and Olivia Reimer of Elburn.  He is also survived by two siblings, Tim (Lynn) Deter of Morrison and Paula (Peter) Romanow of Aurora, IL; mother-in-law, Ann Groharing of Morrison; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Robert and Debby Vaughn of Morrison and Larry and Susan Baker of Urbana, IL.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marie Deter; father-in-law, Fred Groharing of Morrison; brother, David Deter of Morrison.

A gathering of family and friends is scheduled for Saturday, December 16, 2017, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m., at the McDonald Funeral Home, 1601 16th Avenue, Fulton, IL.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ted’s name can be made to W.H.O.A., pancan.org, and Hospice of the Rock River Valley.

The family would like to thank the Cancer Treatment Centers of America Hospitals and staff for their efforts in fighting pancreatic cancer.
