“The Whiteside Forum will be hosting presentations dealing with Mass Media in Modern Society over the next few months,” stated Marc Adami. “How does news, entertainment, and advertising get to you and improve your life, via print, TV, radio, movies, or the internet? How do we influence the media?” he added.
The Whiteside Forum continues its series by hosting Beth Hafner on Thursday, February 26, 2015, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Program Room of the Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL. Her topic is “Mass Media in Modern Society: Culture, Bias, and Censorship.”
Hafner is from Sterling, IL, and teaches English and Journalism at Clinton Community College, Clinton, IA.
She will address some of these questions:
- Where do most people get their information these days?
- How much do facts matter?
- Who owns the media?
- Who gets to tell the stories?
- How does social media perpetuate bias and censorship, and how does it balance bias and prevent censorship?
- Besides journalism and social media, how does advertising and net neutrality affect our lives?
