Laugh at and enjoy the antics of Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston in the film “The Upside,” on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL. The film begins at 2:00 p.m. in the Program Room. There is no charge, but donations are always welcome to offset costs.
Comedian Hart co-stars as a streetwise New Yorker named Dell, who is out on parole and badly needs a job. At least, he needs to prove he is looking for a job. He accidentally stumbles into an elevator that takes him to the Park Avenue penthouse of multi-millionaire businessman, Phillip, played by Cranston. Phillip is wheelchair bound after a hang-gliding accident.
He now seeks 24-hour care. Dell is clearly not qualified for the job, but Phillip likes his edginess and attitude, compared to the more polite applicants he has seen. He hires Dell on the spot.
Stuck in the middle of all these wacky shenanigans is Nicole Kidman, playing Phillip’s uptight and disapproving Executive Assistant. She does not trust Dell and looks for any reason to fire him. Julianna Margulies plays a possible love interest for Phillip.
Dell is given an eye-raising salary, because the depressed Phillip needs someone to entertain him, not take care of him. Mutual benefits multiply as the two unlikely cohorts share good times, prank a Police Officer, and bond over Mozart and Aretha Franklin.
A warm vibe brings two unlikely friends together in a shared humanity.
