On Wednesday, December 14, 2016, Volunteer Educators at the Windmill Cultural Center in Fulton, IL, invite everyone to come in from the cold. Wild Winter Wednesdays continue with their second program. The public is invited to gather at 9:00 a.m. for coffee, tea, and refreshments. The building is located at 111 10th Avenue, Fulton, IL 61252.
Starting at 9:15 a.m., visitors will learn about the history of words associated with the Christmas season.
The Windmill Cultural Center is accessible to people with disabilities. The program is funded through a grant from the Fulton Association for Community Enrichment (FACE.)
John R. Turner will present his program, “The Language of Christmas and Dr. Parry’s Blue Spruce,” to the public. Turner has taught at Scott Community College for 35 years, starting the tradition of live theater there in the 1980’s. Twenty-three of Turner’s plays have been produced and performed in the Quad Cities. During this period, he also won multiple poetry slams held in Davenport, IA, Moline, IL, and at St. Ambrose University, as well some of the first poetry slams held online. Turner ran a “slam room” for Warner Brothers for five years. He has edited “Stirring: A Literary Collection” online since its beginning in 1999. Lastly, Turner takes part in photography and cycling. He is an avid amateur astronomer who has been published in Astronomy magazine.
A new feature this week will be the addition of bread for sale from Krumpets Bakery. Guests will be able to purchase bread made with de Immigrant flour at the Windmill Cultural Center.
Wild Winter Wednesdays programs are held on Wednesday mornings at 9:00 a.m. from December to the end of March 2017. Programs are free and open to the public.
