“The Killing of Pulford and Berry,” an original play written and directed by Savanna, IL’s, Al Cairo, recently was performed at the Savanna Museum and Cultural Center, 406 Main Street, Savanna. It was a smash hit! Three weekend performances played to full houses, and the cast and crew received standing ovations. Additional seating had to be added. Several descendents of the Pulford families were present at each performance, some meeting each other for the first time.
Jean Ferris, active volunteer at Savanna Museum and Cultural Center, stated, “I have tried to find descendents of the Berry family to invite them but have been unsuccessful. We have been in touch with several Pulford descendents. I found that Ivy Berry Perkins was buried in 1950 in the Morrison [Grove Hill C]emetery. Mr. Berry, whose grave is also in your cemetery, was murdered in Savanna in the early 1900’s. It is quite a mystery, with suspicion cast upon his former friend, Mr. Pulford.”
The play was so well received, the cast and crew have been asked to give an encore performance. It will be on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. Reservations for reserved seating may be made by calling Ann Zink at 815-275-1958. A $5 donation will be appreciated.
The Savanna Historical Society is most grateful to the director, cast, and crew, who will again give graciously of their time and talent to offer this presentation. If you were unable to see Savanna’s own murder mystery at the museum, don’t miss this encore performance. History comes alive at the museum.
