Friends of Odell Public Library invite you to share in the delightful 2015 comedy, “The Intern,” on Tuesday, June 14, 2016. The movie stars Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro in a classic tale of the young-and-ambitious versus the experienced-and-retired.
Doors open at 2:00 p.m., at Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL.
Di Niro plays Ben Whittaker, a 70-year-old widower and retired executive. He applies to a Senior Citizen Intern Program after his retirement has become too boring. The company to which he applies is a fast-growing, online, fashion startup founded by Jules Ostin, played by Anne Hathaway. Jules had previously agreed to a community outreach program where Seniors would intern at the firm. Ben impresses everyone and is one of four hired.
He is assigned to work with Jules, who is somewhat skeptical at first and gives him the cold shoulder. However, he slowly wins over her co-workers with his likability. He eventually reveals that he once worked in this same building and becomes a father figure to the younger workers.
Ben also gets to know Jules’s family, which includes her husband, Matt, and their daughter, Paige. Matt gave up his career to be a stay-at-home dad when Jules’s company, About The Fit, took off. However, their marriage is slowly breaking apart, due to her long hours and very hands-on management style. In an effort to buy herself the time to repair her marriage, Jules decides to hire a prospective CEO. Throughout the film, Ben slowly gains her trust as an observant, experienced, and chivalrous watchman.
“This is a feel-good movie, which I guarantee will put a smile on your face and bring a lightness to your step,” says Anne Frame. “I loved the message of this film that ‘experience never gets old’.”
Join your fellow retirees and have a good laugh on Tuesday, June 14. There is no charge, and the film is served with pop and popcorn. See you at the movies!
